This is the original Adler wine making recipe handed down to me from Grandpa Oscar and Norbert.
40 pounds of grapes
3 to 4 gallons of water.
bring the water to a boil
let it stand in a crock (or large wastebasket) until dry on top
strain through a cloth sack
but back 12 pounds of sugar into a jug and seal
let sit for a week (or longer) until it stops bubbling through your trap
